Space for Two was a Rookies 2024 finalist for ‘Game of the Year’, in addition to winning the ‘Holistic Harmony’ award at Falmouth University’s 2024 Games Expo.
Space for Two was my third year team project at Falmouth University, which consisted of an 11 person team
Key Contributions Include:
> Character Customisation Systems
Designed and implemented a modular character customisation interface, supporting multiple character components, and colour variants for the two players. Ensured full controller and keyboard navigation support.
> Subsystem & Menu UI Architecture
Developed scalable UI subsystems for in-game menus, including stacked overlays and pop-ups. Focused on optimisation by managing UI lifecycle states, reducing draw calls, and ensuring clean transitions between gameplay and menu layers.
> UI & Gameplay Animation Programming
Implemented 2D and 3D animation systems across UI and gameplay, including flipbook animations for UI elements and animation state machines for player characters.
> Player Character Movement (Resource Phase)
Programmed player character movement for resource phase, supporting both controller and keyboard input. Tuned movement parameters for responsiveness and accessibility, and integrated animation states to maintain visual clarity during interaction loops.
> Set Dressing, Art, and Material Implementation
Integrated environment assets, materials, and lighting to support visual readability and gameplay flow. Worked within engine constraints to balance visual quality and performance, ensuring assets remained consistent with UI and gameplay.
> Bug Fixing & Iterative Development Support
Identified and resolved bugs across gameplay, physics, and UI throughout all stages of development. Regularly profiled and debugged UI behaviour, input handling, and animation edge cases to maintain stability during iteration.
